Traveling around the world can be a wonderfully fulfilling experience. However, anyone who plans to travel outside the U.S. should take into consideration a variety of factors such as weather, virus outbreaks, or political upheaval to name a few. At Tourico Vacations, we believe the safety of all travelers should always come first.
Be advised that “alerts” are temporary events such as an election season that may result strikes, demonstrations, or other disturbances, health alerts, or elevated risk of a terrorist attack. “Warnings”, on the other hand, should discourage visitation to that location until further notice. Events such as unstable government, frequent terrorist attacks, civil war, or continuous violence and crime would all be cause for travel warnings. Without further delay, here is a list of the five most recent travel alerts and warnings.
Last updated on July 20, 2017, the threat for travelers planning to visit Jordan remains high. Currently ISIS and all it’s affiliates and sympathizers continue to scheme against local security forces, U.S. and western intersects, and other “soft” targets. Because Jordan shares borders with Iraq and Syria, these ongoing terrorist attacks and threats have plagued the area since December of 2016. Any official travel through the U.S. government must receive special permissions to travel anywhere within 10km of either border. This warning is to deter visitors until further notice.
On July 20, 2017 another warning for the Republic of South Sudan was released. Following the violent civil clash in July last year, armed conflict has continued to spread throughout the country. U.S. citizens and aid workers have been made targets of shootings, ambushes, violent assaults, robberies, and more. The risk of violent crime is critical as of this time and travel throughout Southern Sudan is not recommended until further notice.
July 27, 2017 hosts a warning to U.S. citizens against traveling to Venezuela. Severe social unrest, violent crime, and supply shortages all contribute to this travel warning. Current direct-hire personnel and their families assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Caracas are under a strict movement policy that enforces curfews, travel bans, and more. The incredibly unpredictable political events may result in imprisonment of U.S. citizens, denying access to proper medical care, clean water, and food. Travel to Venezuela is considered extremely dangerous and should be avoided at this time.
On August 2, 2017 an alert was issued for travel throughout North Korea. Restrictions of travel due to elevated risks of arrest and long-term imprisonment of U.S. citizens under North Korea’s system of law enforcement are in full effect. Any person who wishes to travel to North Korea at this time must obtain special passport validation, and will only be considered under special circumstances.
Most recently, on Aug 3, 2017, warnings were issued to U.S. citizens about travel within Somalia. Due to widespread terrorist and criminal activity involving al-Qaida and ISIS, U.S. citizens are to be advised that kidnapping, bombings, murder, and more are common throughout Somalia. There is currently no U.S embassy residing in Somalia to provide aid or assistance, therefore travelers should be wary of traveling anywhere in or around Somalia at this time.
